Bikini shopping and religion class
May. 18th, 2009 10:35 pmMy weekend was sadly not as hectic as I'd hoped - I was hoping to meet up with Andrea, who was hanging out in Mestre, but we never made it, so I spent Saturday at home with a bunch of Davide's rugby mates. Not a bad trade-off, in the end.
So today was Monday at school, the only day I actually like of the week. Lauren asked me to skip school and I even said no, that's how much I like Mondays.
Mostly Monday is cool because of Religion, because the teacher is really laid back, only 7 of us take it, and it's one of the only classes when I can get a word in edgeways. It's funny, actually, because the prof and I are at loggerheads almost 100% of the time, but we still manage to get on pretty well. She's a dedicated Roman Catholic and I...am not, and so we're accordingly diverse in our views. Last week, we had a spirited discussion over sexuality and sleeping around, with Fabio, the class communist, backing me up and helping me out when I got into snarls with my Italian.
This week we didn't do anything special (too hot!) but the prof mentioned next week we would be discussing homosexuality. I'm taking that as a gauntlet being thrown, because she's never said what we'd be talking about beforehand, so this week I'll be doing some research into gay rights in Italy, GLBTQ (however the hell that acronym goes) in general, and useful Italian terminology. Because though I can manage at the moment 'gay', 'bi' and 'straight' alright, I can't even think of the word for gender in Italian - sex, yeah, but not gender. Not even sure if they have a word...
But yeah, so looking forward to next Monday, if only for some fun debating.
And then after school I went and bought half a bikini. Half a bikini? you may ask. Yes, my ducklings, half a bikini. It was the first pair of bikini bottoms I've seen that I've liked, so I wasn't letting them slip away. I'll buy a bikini top some other time to match them with because bikini tops are way easier to buy, or alternatively I'll go around alla francese. Sunbathing topless is legal here, after all!
