It's kinda dispiriting that I can no longer make it through one of those trashy women's magazines anymore without wanting to throw it across my room. I can no longer enjoy looking at pretty clothes and reading trashy 'real life' stories when everything that could (and used to) interest me is couched in subtle (and in some cases, blatently UNsubtle) sexism, sizism, racism, queerphobia, and the complete sidelining of anyone who could be considered different.

There were two especially jarring moments in reading May's marie claire:

The first was a movie review with a line reading roughly 'with an all-male cast, there is no opportunity for romance...' Ok, so the only reason you're sad about having an all-male cast is that there won't be any *romance*? Like, woman for their own sake clearly don't matter? And who says men can't be romantically attracted to each other? marie claire, that's who.

The second time my magazine made contact with my bedroom wall was the incredibly hypocritical comment on one of the fashion pages, 'we're loving the more multicultural look fashion's taking on!' surrounded by a few head-shots of models of colour. Almost the only shots of women of colour in the magazine.

So thanks for nothing, marie claire. You won't be getting my money again.

I don't really read magazines like that anymore for that reason. I get pissed off whenever I try to. My magazine reading is now limited to outdoor stuff, nature photography, and cooking.

The magazine I'm really looking around for now is a good religious magazine that covers Paganism. It kind of upsets me that there's tons of Christian magazines and such but none that are Pagan...that I know of. Not that I'm religion bashing, I just want to see something that's more for the occult at least.

I hate reading magazines in general. looking at pictures of skinny women makes me depressed as all hell.

2st is 28lbs is 13kg. I know, I lost half a stone (7lbs) & a few inches off my body due to eating properly & whatnot but then I got sick so I put a load back on. I find it so hard to get motivation & it's always the last bit of weight that's the hardest to lose... I was really skinny a few years ago, too skinny, but I'm the heaviest I've been in years (or I was around Christmastime) & it's dreadful.
